An SEIS is an information system (software) that supports activities specific to a given company and therefore aren't shared by others in the same field. Most companies which truly seek competitive advantage require these kinds of systems, because competitive advantage (differentiation, cost domination, …) relies on specific processes, which in turn require specific information systems to support them. Do differently to do better.

An SEIS generally spreads most the company and its employees, and typically manages clients, products, planning, manufacturing, stocks, accounts, design, … An SEIS does this in company specific ways.

SEIS strongly contrast with the older ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) approach, which pushes products that uniformise business processes, and thus hinders competitive advantage. You can't do better by doing the same.
